Lesley Melville attended the Edinburgh College of Art from 1969 to 1973. She taught Art and Design in various schools in Edinburgh and the Lothians, retiring in 2013.
Working from her base in the Edinburgh area, Lesley creates expressive works that balance bold composition with subtle detail.
Lesley works primarily in oils and acrylics and uses a variety of painting techniques. She enjoys experimenting with texture, layering, and the interplay between traditional and modern artistic approaches. Embracing modern life through vibrant colours and dynamic compositions, she is passionate about exploring the intersection of colour, shape and form, through various artistic mediums.
Her practice reflects an engagement with contemporary painting, while her exhibitions with fellow artists at venues such as Cockenzie House & Gardens and Silver Trees Studios, Peebles, highlight her commitment to community and shared creativity.
Whether through commissioned pieces or gallery exhibitions, Lesley’s goal is to create artwork that resonates with herself and hopefully the viewer.
